Rachana Pradhan Biography
Rachana Pradhan is a Nepal-American journalist as well as a health reporter working as a correspondent for Kaiser Health News, and Politico.
Shortly after graduating, Pradhan worked as a reporting intern at the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star, the city’s primary newspaper. From 2008 to 2010, she worked as a city reporter for The Charlottesville Daily Progress, a weekly newspaper in Charlottesville, Virginia.
After that, in 2011, she began working for Washington Publishers within the company. She worked with Inside Health Policy as an Associate Editor until 2013, and then as the Chief Editor for the Health Exchange Alert until 2014. Her work at Inside Washington Publishers was mostly focused on former President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act during her tenure there.
Pradhan began working at POLITICO in October 2014 and left five years later, in December 2019. She began her current position as a full-time journalist for Kaiser Health News in January 2020. She is currently reporting on how policy decisions made in Washington, DC, affect ordinary people’s lives.
Pradhan worked on an investigation for a series about Tom Price’s mismanagement of taxpayer funds, which led to his resignation. The investigative story was named a nominee for the American Society of News Editors’ O’Brien Fellowship Award.

She was born to her parents, Shailaja Rimal Brady, a scientist at the United States Geological Survey, and Pradeep M. Dixit, a mechanical engineer. Her parents divorced and remarried afterward to other people. Through them, Ray A. Brady is her stepfather and Kabita S. Dixit is her mother. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Journalism and French from James Madison University.
