Ted Allen Biography and Wiki

Ted Allen is an American television personality and author. He was the food and wine connoisseur for Queer Eye reality television series that aired on Bravo. In 2009, he was made the host of the TV cooking competition series Chopped and its spin-off Chopped Junior, since mid-2015. 

Allen began his career as a reporter for Lerner Newspapers in Chicago. He then became a freelancer for Chicago magazine and later a senior editor. Ted wrote about wine, food, and luminaries of the culinary world. He was also a contributing editor for Esquire where he wrote about food pieces and profiles.

In 2003, he became popular for appearing in the reality series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy as the food and wine specialist. He began appearing in more food channels and programs as a gourmet. He became a frequent guest judge on Iron Chef America for Food Network.

From 2007, he appeared as a regular judge on seasons 3 and 4 of Top Chef on Bravo. He left the network in 2008 and joined Food Network as the host of Chopped and Food Detectives. A spin-off of the Chopped shows Chopped Junior was created in 2015.

Allen has made appearances on shows such as Dear Food Network, Beat Bobby Flay, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Best Ever, and The Next Food Network Star.
