Russ Mitchell Biography and Wiki

Russ Mitchell is an American journalist working as an anchor and managing director at WKYC-TV. He was previously working at CBS News where he served as an anchor of The Early Show on Saturday, news anchor for The Early Show during the week, and weekend anchor of the CBS Evening News.

Mitchell’s first television job was as a part-time switchboard operator at KTVI in his hometown of St. Louis while he was still in high school. Mitchell worked as a reporter for Kansas City television station KMBC after graduating from Mizzou.

Mitchell went on to work as an anchor for WFAA Dallas from 1983–1985, as a reporter for KTVI St. Louis 1985–1987, and as a weekend anchor and reporter for KMOV St. Louis from 1987 until 1992 when he joined CBS News as co-anchor of Up to the Minute.

He worked as a correspondent for CBS’s Eye to Eye 1993–1995, anchor of the CBS Sunday Night News, initial co-host of the Saturday Early Show, and news anchor for The Early Show’s weekday edition.

In December 2011, it was revealed that he will be replacing Romona Robinson at Cleveland NBC station WKYC. Mitchell had this to say about the change:

“For several years, I’ve considered returning to local television. It’s been a terrific run at CBS, but I miss the pulse of a local newsroom, and I miss being a part of a community, having grown up in the Midwest. But I wasn’t going anywhere just yet. Cleveland reminds me a lot of the city where I grew up, and I’m excited to bring my family there because I think we’ll have a wonderful time.”
