Nathan Lane Biography and Wiki
Nathan Lane is an American actor and writer. Over the course of his 40-year career, he has played a variety of roles on stage and television, including Albert in The Birdcage, Max Bialystock in the musical The Producers, and Ernie Smuntz in Mouse Hunt among others.
Lane made his Broadway debut in a 1982 revival of Noel Coward’s Present Laughter as Roland Maule (Drama Desk nomination), alongside George C. Scott, Kate Burton, Dana Ivey, Bette Henritze, Elizabeth Hubbard, Jim Piddock, and Christine Lahti.
His second Broadway debut was in the 1983 musical Merlin, starring Chita Rivera and magician Doug Henning. Wind in the Willows as Mr. Toad, Some Americans Abroad at Lincoln Center, and Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound on a national tour followed.
Lane appeared as Sheridan Whiteside in the Roundabout revival of The Man Who Came to Dinner in 2000, alongside Jean Smart and Harriet Harris.
He received his second Tony Award, as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, for his performance as Max Bialystock in the smash musical adaptation of Mel Brooks’s The Producers in 2001.
The following year, he returned to the role of Snowbell in Stuart Little 2. Lane was cast opposite Laurie Metcalf in a Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, directed by Joe Mantello, in February 2020.
Lane will also appear opposite Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Ryan, and Patti LuPone in Ari Aster’s next A24 thriller, Disappointment Blvd.
