She then majored in journalism at Temple University with 15 competitive internships across New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. In one of the internships, Katie worked with Linda Ellerbee at Nick News. Ellerbee inspired Katie to go into journalism, and during this internship become a mentor.

She also covered a plane crash carrying a former Walmart CEO. Katro dug into documents of a historical home of a famous aviator, set to be demolished. As a result of her coverage, she was able to help save the house.

Katie also covered many visits by the presidential candidates, including Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump. Katro moved to a station in Hartford, Connecticut where she then served on the Communications Advisory Board for Manchester Community College.
