Jon Fortt Biography
Jon Fortt is a well-known American journalist working as the co-anchor of CNBC’s “Squawk Alley” broadcast live from the New York Stock Exchange. He graduated from DePauw University as a Media Fellow, with a B.A. in English.
Jon is a co-anchor on CNBC’s “Squawk Alley,” which airs live from the New York Stock Exchange (M-F, 11 AM-12 PM ET).
On CNBC, Squawk Alley is the place to go for technology news. We focus on the intersection of Wall Street and Silicon Valley, airing live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, and interviewing prominent figures ranging from venture capital to tech CEOs, startups, and disruptors.
He was previously an on-air editor at CNBC’s global headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. In July 2010, he joined CNBC as a technology correspondent. Jon reported from CNBC’s Silicon Valley bureau, where he covered the companies, start-ups, and trends driving industry innovation.
Prior to joining CNBC, Jon was a senior writer at Fortune magazine, where he covered both large technology companies like Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, and Microsoft, as well as trends like cloud computing and the smartphone revolution. He worked as a senior editor at Business 2.0 magazine, where he produced the “What Works” section, before joining Fortune in 2007.
He worked as a writer and editor at the San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley’s hometown newspaper, from 1999 to 2006. During his time there, he was involved in several projects that were recognized by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
Jon’s coverage responsibilities as a personal technology writer included Apple, Palm, and Adobe. He also covered education, edited local news, and developed a technology strategy outside of the business department.
He served on the board of the Associated Press Managing Editors while working as a senior Web editor for a newspaper. He helped develop a blog and podcast network, managed the creation of multimedia projects, and served on the board of the Associated Press Managing Editors.
