Gillardi began her career at Fairbanks Museum And Planetarium as a meteorologist. While there, she Forecasted and broadcasted for local radio stations and Vermont Public Radio. She later joined KQTV in April  2004 as the morning meteorologist and weather reporter.

In April 2005, Jill joined KOLR $ KSFX as a meteorologist and weather reporter. She presented the weather forecasts for Saturday through Wednesday Fox newscasts and both CBS & Fox stations on the weekends. She also covered the deadly 2011 Joplin tornado.

In September 2011, Gilardi joined WOWT as a meteorologist. She presented weather forecasts for midday newscasts on Tuesday and Thursday and evening newscasts on Friday & Saturday. Jill then joined WBRC FOX 6 News in December 2013.

She works with the WBRC First Alert weather team as a meteorologist. She covered the weekday noon newscasts, doing traffic reports at 4 and 5 pm and filling in at times for the other meteorologists.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Tracking a couple of systems bringing precipitation to the Florida Panhandle, southeast Alabama, the Carolinas, and the Northeast. We are seeing just clouds that will gradually break up from west to east through the late afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will rise into the lower and middle 50s. First Alert for a cold start in the upper 20s and lower 30s, mostly sunny skies and highs in the middle and upper 50s. Winds will flow from the west at 5-10 mph.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The big story today is the strong cold front that has moved through the area. It sparked that one nasty storm that produced a tornado in Sumter and Hale counties yesterday afternoon. We were the first television station to track this tornado warned storm as it traveled from Sumter to Hale counties. Several homes were damaged with injuries and one death. We send our thoughts and prayers out to the communities hit yesterday.
