Ezra Klein is an American journalist, political analyst, and New York Times columnist who also hosts the podcast The Ezra Klein Show. He is a co-founder of Vox and was formerly the website’s editor-at-large. He has worked as an editor for The Washington Post and The American Prospect, and he has been a regular contributor to Bloomberg News and MSNBC.
Ezra interned for the Washington Monthly in Washington, D.C. in 2004 after working on Howard Dean’s Vermont primary campaign in 2003. “The media is as powerful and essential a change agent as legislative bodies, and I believe that’s where I’m happiest and most productive,” Klein remarked.
He and Markos Moulitsas were among the first bloggers to cover a political convention, the California State Democratic Party’s, in 2003. Klein was one of several writers slammed anonymously by The New Republic’s Lee Siegel in 2006. On December 10, 2007, Klein made The American Prospect his full-time home for his blog.
He then joined The Washington Post as a politics and economics blogger. He additionally worked for Bloomberg View as a columnist when it launched in May 2011. Klein announced his departure from The Washington Post in January 2014, with plans to launch a new media company with several other seasoned writers. Vox, a political website, was later recognized as a new media endeavor.
Klein was the editor-in-chief of Vox before becoming editor-at-large, and he previously worked for and ran The Washington Post’s Wonkblog. On MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, he regularly delivers political analysis.
He has previously been on Countdown with Keith Olbermann. In October 2019, he began the podcast Impeachment, Explained together with reporters from Vox Media. He joined New York Times in 2020 and became an opinion columnist in 2021.
