David Highfield is an American news journalist currently working as a news anchor for KDKA in Pittsburgh. David anchors KDKA’s morning newscast “Your Day Pittsburgh” with Heather Abraham.

David Highfield co-hosts the morning newscast “Your Day Pittsburgh” alongside Heather Abraham. Their chemistry extends to the popular lifestyle/talk show “Pittsburgh Today Live,” where they bring daily doses of entertainment and valuable insights to viewers.

His dedication to journalism has earned him a remarkable collection of awards, including an impressive 12 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, recognizing his exceptional hosting and reporting skills. In addition, he has been honored with two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards one for a thought-provoking report on the potential link between Marcellus Shale drilling and earthquakes, and another for his investigation into the issue of smoke detectors failing to wake up children.

David’s commitment to storytelling excellence extends beyond regional recognition, as he has also received Golden Quills for his feature reporting, and awards from the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association, showcasing his ability to captivate audiences with his storytelling finesse. He was also honored with a Matrix award for his exceptional coverage of floods.

An innovator in the media world, David created, hosted, and executive produced the Emmy award-winning “Your Pittsburgh,” an evening news magazine that captivated viewers for seven years on KDKA.

His journey in journalism began at KDKA as a writer in 1991, and he quickly moved up the ranks to become a newscast producer. From there, he leaped at being in front of the camera, taking on roles such as the Westmoreland County Bureau Chief and later the Beaver/Butler Bureau Chief. He further showcased his versatility as an 11 p.m. reporter and fill-in anchor before assuming the role of anchor for KDKA News at Noon in 2020.

David’s dedication to reporting has taken him beyond the borders of Pittsburgh, with some of his reports airing on prominent networks like WCBS in New York and KCBS in Los Angeles. He has covered diverse topics, including drought conditions for “CBS This Morning” and a train derailment for WBBM in Chicago.

His outstanding contributions to his community have not gone unnoticed, as his hometown inducted him into the Ford City Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2013, the Armstrong County Sports Hall of Fame recognized him for his numerous sports-related stories.

Beyond his impressive career, David also dedicates his time to giving back to local charities, supporting organizations such as The KDKA-TV Turkey Fund, Animal Friends, Persad Center, Hair Peace, American Red Cross, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County.

David is married to his husband Gary, the couple currently resides in Lawrenceville together and seems to be happy in their marriage.
