Catherine Zeta-Jones is a Welsh actress known for starring in films such as 42nd Street, 1001 Nights, and the action film The Mask of Zorro. She was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2010 for her contributions to film and humanitarian work.
As a child, she appeared in the West Ed productions of Annie and Bugsy Malone. She studied musical theatre at the Arts Educational Schools in London and made her stage debut in a 1987 production of 42nd Street.
Her film debut was in the unsuccessful French-Italian film 1001 Nights (1990), but she found greater success as a regular on the British television series The Darling Buds of May (1991–1993). Zeta-Jones moved to Los Angeles after becoming dissatisfied with her role as the token pretty girl in British films.
