Benny’s rise in the hip-hop scene came later than most, hitting his peak in his thirties with notable releases like Tana Talk 3 (2018), The Plugs I Met (2019), and the critically acclaimed Burden of Proof (2020). He followed up with The Plugs I Met 2 (2021) and a collaboration with J. Cole in anticipation of Tana Talk 4 (2022).
Benny discovered his passion for music at the age of ten. He initially released music in the late 2000s under the alias B.E.N.N.Y., with projects such as The Mayor’s Back and Chains Bond. In 2018, the joint Griselda/Black Soprano Family release, Tana Talk 3, produced by Alchemist and Daringer, catapulted Benny to new heights and garnered critical acclaim, setting the stage for his continued success in 2019. That year, he made appearances with Westside and Conway on DJ Premier’s “Headlines,” delivered the Billboard-charting The Plugs I Met, and secured a management deal with Roc Nation.
Benny joined forces with producer Hit-Boy in 2020 for the impressive Burden of Proof, featuring guest appearances from artists like Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Rick Ross, and Freddie Gibbs. The subsequent year saw him collaborate with beatmaker Harry Fraud for The Plugs I Met 2.
He further expanded his discography with releases like Trust the Sopranos in collaboration with 38 Spesh and the solo EP Pyrex Picasso. Benny’s collaboration with J. Cole on “Johnny P’s Caddy” in 2022 paved the way for his full-length album, Tana Talk 4. Additionally, he made notable contributions to tracks by artists such as Armani Caesar and Maxo Kream and also played a role in Black Soprano Family’s album, Long Live DJ Shay.
