Kumail Nanjiani Biography

Kumail Nanjiani is a Pakistani comedian and actor known for playing Dinesh in Silicon Valley. He is married to author and producer Emily V. Gordon. He is also a graduate of St. Michael’s Convent School, Karachi Grammar School, and Grinnell College. 

He often participated in co-writing and starring in The Big Sick romantic comedy. He was named one of the 100 most important persons in the world by Time magazine in 2018. He co-hosted a video game-themed podcast titled The Indoor Kids along with Ali Baker.

Afterward, Kumail co-hosted the podcast along with his wife Emily after Ali left. During this time, he also appeared on Dan Harmon’s podcast Harmontown on a regular basis. Later, he played Dungeons & Dragons with Harmon as Chris de Burgh.

Most noteworthy, Nanjiani was cast in The Kings of Summer where he portrayed the role of a delivery worker. He was also featured in the Franklin & Bash TNT sitcom and guest-starred in the Portlandia show.

Furthermore,  Kumail played the role of Amir Larussa in Newsreaders as Prismo in Adventure Time. In addition, he made several appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals.

In March 2021, Kumail was announced as part of the cast for an upcoming Disney+ series, “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” However, in February 2020, he initially agreed to star in “The Independent,” a political thriller directed by Amy Rice, but later withdrew from the role.

In 2022, Nanjiani played the lead role of Somen Banerjee, the founder of the Chippendales dance troupe, in the Hulu miniseries “Welcome to Chippendales.” Additionally, on March 24, 2023, it was confirmed that Nanjiani had joined the ensemble for the forthcoming untitled sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”
