Tony Guida Biography
American Tony Guida works as a local radio and television personality in New York. He currently works as a business journalist for CBS News and a news anchor for WCBS Newsradio 880. Tony’s career began at WTAG in Worcester, Massachusetts, following the First World War but before Woodstock.
In 1970, he began working as a reporter for the New York television station WOR-TV, which is now WWOR-TV. Later, he co-anchored the station’s former 7 o’clock broadcast in 1971. When WNBC-Live TV’s At Five Names was temporarily eliminated in 1991, Tony was appointed co-anchor of Today in New York.
Additionally, he would be in charge of continuing his Today In New York co-hosting responsibilities. Tony declined this opportunity in favor of the senior reporter position offered by WCBS-TV. Guida expanded his reporting responsibilities in 1993 to include a 5 PM co-anchor. Guida’s co-anchor position was changed from 5 to 6 in 1994.
Tony presently works as a business journalist for CBS News and a news anchor for WCBS Newsradio 880. Tony began working for WCBS-TV as the Chief Political Reporter in 1981. He returned to WNBC-TV in 1986 as Chief Political Reporter, and in 1989 Tony was given the opportunity to become a co-anchor of Live at Five. Tony became a co-anchor of Today in New York after the Live at Five name was temporarily eliminated from WNBC-TV.
Guida expanded his reporting responsibilities in 1993 to include a 5 PM co-anchor. Tony’s co-anchor position was changed from 5 to 6 in 1994. In 1995, he took up Jim Jensen’s position as co-anchor of Sunday Edition, WCBS-public TV’s affairs show.
Following John Roberts’ departure, Tony was appointed co-anchor of the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts for a brief period of time. Tony was fired from WCBS-TV in 1996 along with Johnson, Michele Marsh, and other anchors. Later, Dow Jones & Company’s new station WBIS-TV appointed him as its chief anchor.
