Patrick Elwood Biography

A Chicago native, Patrick Elwood is a journalist known for working as a general assignment reporter for WGN News. He is married and has four children and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

Elwood previously worked as an early afternoon anchor at WFLD-Channel 32. He was forced to leave after 15 years and obtained low maintenance job at WGN-Channel 9. He appeared as an independent correspondent on the Tribune Broadcasting channel on Friday.

Elwood was one of several Chicago news veterans who have fired from Fox 32 a year ago as the station’s board restructured it. Jake Hamilton, a former film analyst for KRIV-TV, the Fox station in Houston, beat him in his last job as an element journalist on “Great Day Chicago.”

In 2013, he began working for WGN-TV. Prior to joining WGN-TV, Patrick worked for major television and radio stations in Houston, Corpus Christi, Oklahoma City, and Milwaukee before returning to Chicago.

The White Sox World Series, two Blackhawks Championships, the Bears Super Bowl, and the Oklahoma City Bombing, for which he received a Peabody Award, are just a few of his professional highlights. He considers his greatest accomplishment to be his work with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, where he and a large number of Chicago schoolchildren raised more than $12 million for pediatric cancer research.
