In November 2021, Terrazas became a member of the 13News Now family. Melissa grew up in Central Texas as the oldest of three children. Melissa attended The University of Texas at San Antonio for a year after graduating from Belton High School in 2014 before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin.

She realized her passion for both science and journalism at that time. Melissa decided to continue her study after graduating with a degree in Geography and Communications in 2018.

She was admitted to Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi’s Atmospheric Sciences department in the summer of 2018. Melissa packed her belongings and moved down to the Texas coast, overjoyed at the opportunity to pursue a Meteorology degree.

Melissa began working as an intern for KRIS 6 News after only a few months. She was able to put all she had learned in the classroom to use in the real world there. She knew she was exactly where she needed to be after learning so much from this experience.

She began her work as an on-air Meteorologist for KAMR Local 4 News in Amarillo, Texas, shortly after graduating with her degree in Atmospheric Science in December 2020. Forecasting in the Texas Panhandle, she’ll tell you, kept her on her toes. Her most memorable experience was during a storm-chasing event in Happy, Texas in March of 2021 when she came within 150 yards of an EF-2 tornado.
