Kristi Nelson is a multiple Emmy-award-winning American news journalist currently working as a news anchor for NBC 5 First at Four and 5 Talk Street. she’s also hosted NBC 5 Spotlight and been at the forefront of some of the region’s most memorable breaking news stories.

She began her media career as a newspaper reporter, interning at The Dallas Morning News for many summers before moving on to The Philadelphia Inquirer and, eventually, The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Kristi received her first experience of the sports industry when she worked as a writer in the National Basketball Association’s Communications Department’s Publishing Ventures section.

She wrote feature stories for commemorative magazines and NBA-branded publications, such as Inside Stuff and Hoop, and was a member of the media relations team for key events such as the NBA Finals, NBA All-Star Weekend, and NBA Draft.

Her job at the NBA paved the way for her to become a published novelist. Kristi completed “The Chamique Holdsclaw Story” while studying for her Master’s degree at Columbia University. Scholastic Press released it in 2000.
