Judy Woodruff Biography
Judy Woodruff is a broadcast journalist in the United States known for her work in network, cable, and public television news. She is the PBS NewsHour’s anchor and managing editor.

Woodruff is a seasoned journalist with a remarkable career spanning five decades, during which she has made significant contributions to the field of political reporting. Her journey started at NBC, where she served as the White House correspondent from 1977 to 1982. Following this, she took on the role of chief Washington correspondent for NBC’s Today Show for a year.
During her tenure at PBS from 1983 to 1993, Woodruff established herself as the chief Washington correspondent for the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour. She also anchored the prestigious documentary series, “Frontline with Judy Woodruff,” from 1984 to 1990, earning accolades for her work.
In 1993, Woodruff made a significant move to CNN, where she held the position of anchor and senior correspondent for 12 years. Her responsibilities included anchoring the weekday program “Inside Politics.” In 2007, she returned to the PBS NewsHour and, in 2013, made history alongside Gwen Ifill as the first two women to co-anchor a national news broadcast. Following Ifill’s passing, Woodruff continued as the sole anchor.
Throughout her career, Woodruff has taken on diverse roles, such as anchoring a monthly program called “Conversations with Judy Woodruff” for Bloomberg Television from 2006 to 2013. She has also been a visiting professor at Duke University’s Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy and a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy.
In addition to her television work, Judy Woodruff authored the book “This is Judy Woodruff at the White House,” published in 1982 by Addison-Wesley. Her illustrious reporting career began in Atlanta, Georgia, where she covered state and local government, laying the foundation for her remarkable journey in journalism.
