His journey began in 2002 when he joined the program as a preferred walk-on. Over the span of 2003 to 2005, Klatt set an impressive 44 school records as the Buffaloes’ starting quarterback. In his debut season, he achieved the milestone of throwing for over 2,500 yards, totaling 2,614 yards and 21 touchdowns.

By the end of his college career, Klatt had etched his name in the record books as Colorado’s all-time leader in passing yards (7,375), touchdowns (44), completion percentage (60.8), and completions (666). His 44 school records stand as the second-highest in Colorado’s sports history, trailing only Byron White, who set 51 records as a halfback in the 1930s.

Interestingly, Klatt’s football journey took a detour as he briefly entered professional baseball post-high school. Drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 11th round of the 2000 MLB Amateur Draft, he spent two seasons in baseball before returning to pursue his passion for football. After graduating from Colorado, Klatt participated in rookie mini-camps with the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints in 2006, ultimately signing as a free agent with the Saints.
