Diane Lane Biography

Diane Lane is an American actress and producer who has won numerous awards. She was born on January 22, 1965, in New York City. She received a “Young Artist Award” for Best Young Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her work as Sherri “Cherry” Valance in the 1983 American coming-of-age drama film “The Outsiders,” for which she is well-known.

Diane was born and raised in the USA, by her mother Colleen Leigh Farrington and Burton Eugene Lane her father Her father was a Cab driver, a drama coach, and served as a professor of humanities at the City College, while her mother was a Playboy model and nightclub singer. Her parents later divorced while she was still a child and she was raised by her mother until she was six.

After her mother moved to Georgia, she later received custody of the child. She was kidnapped by her mother and taken to Georgia. Six weeks after Lane and her father filed a lawsuit against Farrington, she returned to New York City and began living with her father. Liane didn’t speak to her mother for the following three years, but they later made up and currently have a fantastic connection. She attended and graduated from the Hunter College High School and City College.

In the 1971 production of Medea by La Mama Experimental Theatre Company, Lane received her first acting job at the age of 6, playing Medea’s daughter. She played and toured internationally with La MaMa, E.T.C. from that point on until 1976. The Trojan Women, Electra, The Good Woman of Szechuan by Bertolt Brecht, Blood Wedding by Federico Garcia Lorca, The Silver Queen by Paul Foster, and As You Like It by Shakespeare are just a few of the plays she appeared in. Andrei Erban and Elizabeth Swados directed and/or adapted the majority of these plays.

At the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York, Lane performed in The Cherry Orchard and Agamemnon from 1976 to 1977. Lane took a ten-year break from acting after taking part in Runaways’ initial off-Broadway staging. As Olivia in Twelfth Night at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Lane made her stage debut once more in 1989.

After another break from acting, Lane returned to the stage in 2012 to co-star with Finn Wittrock in David Cromer’s Sweet Bird of Youth at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre. After that, Lane made a comeback to New York theater, appearing with Tony Shalhoub in Bathsheba Doran’s The Mystery of Love and Sex off-Broadway in 2015 and with Joel Grey and Harold Perrineau in the Broadway revival of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard in 2016.
