Ashton Sanders is an American actor, he is known for his appearance on  Academy Award-winning film Moonlight as the teenage Chiron. Sanders has also featured on the hip-hop tv-series Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

Sanders made his feature film debut in Chris Eska’s The Retrieval. On March 11, 2013, the film made its international premiere at South by Southwest. Variance Films released it in a limited release on April 2, 2014. Sanders appeared in the film Straight Outta Compton in 2015. He starred in an episode of Refinery29’s web series The Skinny in 2016.

Sanders also starred in Barry Jenkins’ drama picture Moonlight, which was released the same year. On September 2, 2016, the film had its global premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, and A24 released it in limited distribution on October 21, 2016. Moonlight won widespread critical praise and a slew of awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Picture.

Mahershala Ali received three Academy Awards for his performance in the film, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor. Critics complimented Sanders’ performance in the film, calling it “powerful” by Benjamin Lee of The Guardian. Sanders appeared alongside Denzel Washington in The Equalizer 2, a sequel to the successful action picture The Equalizer.

Sanders appears alongside John Goodman and Vera Farmiga in Rupert Wyatt’s science fiction thriller Captive State in 2019. He also starred in HBO’s version of the novel Native Son as the lead.
