Amna Nawaz is an American broadcast journalist, chief correspondent as well as a substitute anchor for PBS NewsHour. She worked as an anchor and correspondent for ABC News and NBC News before joining PBS in April 2018. She has won numerous accolades, including an Emmy and a Society for Features Journalism award.

Nawaz began her career as a reporter for Nightline. She had intended to become a lawyer, but after a fellowship at ABC News, she decided to pursue a career in journalism. She joined NBC in 2003 and then worked on projects like Dateline NBC.

She worked as a producer on Mortgage Crisis Investigations for NBC’s investigative unit, which was nominated for an Emmy Award for Business & Financial Reporting in 2008. In 2009, she was awarded a fellowship from the International Reporting Project. For the NBC News special Inside the Obama White House, she shared a News & Documentary Emmy Award in 2010.

Later, she worked for NBC’s Islamabad bureau as a correspondent and bureau chief. In 2015, she joined ABC News. In 2016 and 2017, she was the anchor of election and national political coverage in the United States. She was also the host of the ABC podcast Uncomfortable. She began working for PBS in April of 2018.

Nawaz was a correspondent for the 2018 PBS NewsHour series The Plastic Problem, which won a Peabody Award in 2019. When she co-moderated a Democratic Party presidential debate in December 2019, she made history as the first Asian American and Muslim to moderate a presidential discussion in the United States. She was named Chief Correspondent of the PBS NewsHour in June 2021.
