Walt was on the front lines of major national stories while in Austin in the 1990s, covering the terrible F-5 tornado that destroyed Jarrell, the gigantic Texas A&M bonfire collapse, and the Oklahoma City bombing. Walt covered then-Governor George W. Bush’s presidential campaign.
He also conducted rare one-on-one interviews with Michael Dell and launched Click Here, a weekly tech section in Austin. Walt won the Edward R. Murrow Award and multiple EMMY Awards for his reporting. But it is the Barbara Jordan Award for his reportage on disabled Texans that he is most proud of.
Walt comes to KEYE TV from FOX 59 News in Indianapolis, where he was the anchor of the 5 p.m. news and gave live coverage of Indiana Task Force 1 assisting Superstorm Sandy victims as well as the Indianapolis 500.
He also worked in Dallas, Tampa, and Atlanta, among other places. He spent a month in Sydney, Australia in 2000 while in Atlanta, covering the Olympics for NBC. Walt grew up in Southern California and earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and political science from the University of Southern California.
