Steve Bunin is an American journalist working as a news anchor for Seattle NBC station, KING TV. He has hosted various shows in his career including ‘Outside The Lines’, ‘SportsCenter’ and ‘College Football Live.’ Before joining KING TV, he worked as a sports anchor at five different local stations which are WOTV-Tv, WLAJ-TV, KNAZ -TV, WICZ-TV and WTVH-TV.
Bunin worked for ESPN from 2003 until 2021, where he hosted a number of programming, including Outside The Lines, SportsCenter, and College Football Live. On ESPN and ESPN2, he also hosted Baseball Tonight, NFL Live, Sports Reporters, ESPN Radio, and a number of NCAA and pro sports events.
He became the first ESPN anchor to win the renowned “Game Ball” award for a character in 2010. For his voluntary efforts, mainly with at-risk youth, he earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award from Barack Obama in 2012.
Richard Deitsch, a media critic for Sports Illustrated, dubbed Bunin “one of the most unappreciated talents in sports journalism” in 2011. Bunin was named one of the “Twelve Broadcasters Viewers Deserve More Of In 2012” in Sports Illustrated’s 2011 Media Awards.
He was the lead anchor for Comcast SportsNet Houston from 2012 until 2014, before the network went bankrupt. He was nominated for the Texas Emmy Awards for Best Sports Anchor in each of his years at the network, receiving an Emmy for his 2014 interview with Carl Lewis. From 2015 to 2016, he co-hosted the ESPN Radio KFNC Houston midday show and the SB Nation Radio prime-time national show with Sean Salisbury.
Bunin joined KING-TV in 2017, and in each of his first four years there, he was nominated for a Regional Emmy for Best News Anchor, winning in 2021. He was voted Best TV Sportscaster and Best TV Sports Coverage by the Arizona Associated Press in 1998. In 2000, he was named Best TV Sportscast by the Michigan Associated Press.
