Tellez began her career at KQTV in St. Joseph, Missouri as an anchor and general assignment reporter. She went to WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Florida in 1988 as a news anchor and reporter. She then joined WGN-TV in Chicago, as an anchor and reporter for the morning and midday newscast from 1995-2004.
