Rissa Shaw Wikipedia
Rissa began her career as a reporter for KIEM in Eureka, CA, after graduating from Arizona State University’s prestigious Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication. While everything is ‘larger in Texas,’ everything in California is more difficult.
She covered everything from local politics around marijuana businesses in “the green triangle” to state budget cuts to education and environmental issues like tree-sitting protests in area forests while in Eureka. Rissa finished her term as an anchor and Interim News Director behind the desk.
Rissa took a break from the news profession to pursue one of her lifelong ambitions: politics. She worked as a political consultant on then-Mayor of San Francisco Gavin Newsom’s lieutenant gubernatorial campaign. Her role allowed her to work with California Governor Jerry Brown, former President Bill Clinton, and President Barack Obama on several occasions. She organized political events, controlled the press, and even drove in the Presidential motorcade; once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that she will never forget or regret.
She missed the news, despite the fact that presidential politics was an exciting adventure. So she accepted a position at KAVU-TV in Victoria, TX, to be closer to her best buddy in Austin. For three years, she was the only female evening news anchor, anchoring the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts and produced the 6 p.m. newscast to its greatest ratings in years.
Rissa enjoyed contributing to the community by arranging events, emceeing fundraisers, and speaking to primary schools, among other things. The Victoria Advocate nominated her for Best Local Celebrity in 2014, 2015, and again in 2016. Victoria provided her a glimpse of the beautiful state she was about to fall in love with.
