Ayed began working for the CBC on a freelance basis in 2002 and served as the network’s Amman correspondent during the American invasion of Iraq in 2003. Ayed spent months in Baghdad ahead to the start of the following war and subsequently returned to cover the city’s fall life.

Ayed worked as the CBC’s Beirut reporter from 2004 until 2009, covering events around the Middle East, including the 2006 Lebanon War and the 2008-2009 Gaza War. She got her second Gemini Award nomination in 2010 for her coverage of the Iranian presidential elections the previous year, and her third nomination in 2011 for her coverage of the Egyptian protests.
