He began his basketball career at Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. In his debut season, he helped his team reach the state championship game. In November 2019, he picked Arkansas over offers from Virginia and Michigan to play collegiate basketball. He averaged 16.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a rookie.
