Mike was the second host of Beauty and the Geek, as well as the producer of several game programs, including Weakest Link. He went on to host seasons of High School Reunion after that. Mike was the executive producer of The Price Is Right and Let’s Make a Deal until the end of the 2018–19 season.

Before Drew Carey was chosen to host The Price is Right, he was a contender. Mike was described as “exclusionary and contemptuous of longtime show employees” in interviews for those two performances. He frequently ignored Deal, to the point where one post-producer playfully reintroduced themselves at a meeting, only to be sacked shortly after. Mike presented the GSN reincarnation of The Pyramid in 2012 and the network’s Divided in 2017–18.

During this time, Richards presented The Randumb Show, a podcast that was billed as a look at the making of Price. According to The Ringer’s Claire McNear, Mike “repeatedly used harsh language and disparaged women’s bodies,” while the Anti-Defamation League blasted Richards’ stereotyping of women, Jews, and Asians on the podcast. In response to a request for comment in 2021, Mike apologized for the content and took the podcast down.

Mike Richards Wikipedia

Mike left both Divided and The Pyramid in 2019 to join Sony Pictures Television as an executive producer for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, alongside presenter Jimmy Kimmel and Michael Davies, for the show’s nine-episode debut season in the 2019–20 season. Mike took over as executive producer of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! for the 2020–21 season after Harry Friedman retired.

Mike appeared at the start of November 9, 2020, broadcast to pay respect to Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, who died in 2020. He later appeared as a guest presenter on the show for two weeks, with his first episode airing on February 22, 2021. Mike has in “advanced negotiations” to become the permanent host on August 4, 2021, though other candidates were still in the running. Following that news, lawsuits filed against Mike while he was an executive producer on The Price is Right resurfaced, igniting debate.

Despite predictions that he would leave as executive producer of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! following the controversy, Mike kept his job on both shows with the full support of Sony Pictures and Ravi Ahuja, the chairman of the company’s television division. He was sacked from his executive producer positions at both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune on August 31, 2021, just over a week after resigning as permanent host. The interim executive producer will be Embassy Row’s Michael Davies.
