Mike Breen Biography
Mike Breen is an American sports journalist working for ESPN as a play-by-play sports commentator for NBA on ABC. He is also the lead announcer on the MSG Network for r New York Knicks games. Previously, Breen was a play-by-play announcer for the preseason games of the New York Giants.
Breen began his career as a play-by-play announcer for WFAN from 1992 to 1997 as a radio announcer for the Knicks. He was then promoted to television play-by-play replacing Marv Albert who was fired for his sex scandal. From February 8, 2006, he was made the lead broadcaster for the NBA, including the NBA Finals following the departure of Al Michaels.
He was a commentator for the Marist College Red Foxes basketball team in 1985. In his career, he has also announced in five Olympic Games including four Summer Olympics and one Winter Olympics. In Basketball at the 2008 Summer Olympics, Breen served as the play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports coverage of men’s and women’s Olympics.
In his radio career, he worked for WNBC radio in the early 1980s as a sportscaster and regularly substituted for Dave Sims as host of “SportsNight” on the station. He was the host of Imus in the Morning talk and comedy radio show for WFAN radio from 1988 to 2000.
He now works for ESPN as a play-by-play sports commentator for NBA on ABC. He also called regular NFL season games for NFL on NBC, NFL on Fox, and the NBA Finals on ABC.
