Hart worked as the co-host of Regis Philbin’s first national Talk show on NBC which was later canceled. Upon cancellation of the show, Entertainment Tonight spoke with her about the experience of being canceled. She was hired as one of its correspondents the day after the interview. She and Ron Hendren were selected co-hosts of the show thirteen weeks later. Hart and Mark Steines started co-hosting ET in 2004. Hart hired Jay Bernstein as her manager shortly after being hired by ET.

Hart announced her departure from the show on August 5, 2010, stating that she was ready for a change at the end of the approaching 30th season. On May 20, 2011, Hart’s farewell episode aired.
