Lucy Hawking is an English journalist, novelist and philanthropist. She is the daughter of the well-known theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and writer Jane Wilde Hawking.
Hawking worked as a journalist after graduating from university. New York magazine, the Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Times, the London Evening Standard, and The Guardian were among the publications for which she wrote. She worked as a radio journalist as well.
Hawking longed to be a novelist. Jaded (2004) and Run for Your Life (2005) were her first two books (2005). She moved to children’s literature a few years after these volumes, and in 2007 she wrote George’s Secret Key to the Universe, an adventure narrative about a tiny boy named George who discovers a means to travel across the solar system by slipping through a computer-generated portal.
The UK Space Agency awarded Hawking and British publisher Curved House Kids funding in 2015 to create an education project as part of astronaut Tim Peake’s education outreach. Principia Space Diary was the result of a collaboration between Curved House Kids’ Kristen Harrison and Professor Peter MacOwan of Queen Mary University of London.
The British Interplanetary Society recommended it for a Sir Arthur Clarke Award for Excellence in Space Education after it reached over 60,000 pupils in the UK.
