Leland Pinder WTVR Wikipedia
Leland Pinder started working at CBS6 News in August 2021. He is eager to establish Central Virginia as his new home and is thrilled to join the outstanding group of journalists at WTVR.
Leland, a Charlotte, North Carolina native and University of North Carolina Wilmington alumnus, joins CBS6 News in his new position as evening anchor and reporter. He has almost 11 years of professional experience.
Leland worked as the weekday morning anchor at venerable NBC affiliate WIS-TV in South Carolina’s capital city for over five years before relocating to Richmond. Being a member of an Emmy Award-winning team at Columbia was a professional high point for him.
For its coverage of Hurricane Irma, its coverage of a local breaking news issue, and its finest morning newscast, WIS News10 Sunrise was recognized with Southeast Regional Emmy Awards in 2017 and 2018. More recently, Leland played a significant role in the station’s coverage of major stories like the kidnapping and tragic murder of a 6-year-old South Carolina girl, which garnered international attention, protests sparked by George Floyd’s death, and a statewide teacher strike at the SC State House.
Leland also created and presented a weekly community affairs program called Awareness while he was a student at WIS. The 30-minute show mostly addressed problems and subjects that Black Americans and other minority populations care about, such as those affecting women, the elderly, and the LGBTQ community.
Leland worked for nearly four years with Time Warner Cable News in North Carolina, first as an assignment editor in Charlotte and then as a “one mand band” reporter out of the network’s Wilmington newsroom, before relocating to South Carolina. He spent two years as a weekend evening anchor and reporter at WCTI in Greenville/New Bern, North Carolina, and nearly four years there.
