After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 2008, Lauren began her media career as a reporter in Central Texas. She covered the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, which lost 13 lives, unprecedented flooding, and the annual Food for Families drive at KWTX, an event that she still remembers fondly.

Lauren accepted a morning anchor position at WAFB in Baton Rouge, La., in 2011 and immediately began anchoring the station’s noon show. Her teams received Emmy nominations, Associated Press first-place trophies, and Louisiana Association of Broadcasters distinctions.

She co-anchored WAFB’s Edward R. Murrow Award-winning coverage of a deadly police shooting in 2016. Unprecedented floods in Baton Rouge a month later claimed thousands of lives and wrecked thousands of homes and businesses. Lauren sat at the anchor desk for hours at a time while the floodwaters receded over several days. Louisiana natives Randy Jackson and Harry Connick, Jr. joined Lauren to co-host a nationally televised concert to raise money for those whose livelihoods were decimated by the disaster.

Westbrook enjoys athletics and is proud to have covered LSU’s National Championship victory in New Orleans. She also co-hosted the victory parade in Baton Rouge, which was broadcast across the state.Lauren was named the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters’ first Young Professional of the Year in early 2020.
