Wilmore began appearing in tiny film and television parts in the 1980s, including a regular appearance as a police officer on The Facts of Life. He worked as a writer on the chat program Into the Night With Rick Dees, the sketch comedy show In Living Color, and the sitcom Sister, Sister, where he played a bus driver in one episode.
