Beil began his career as a journalist at the University of Hawaii, where he worked for the student newspaper and the school radio station. He covered everything from erupting volcanoes to sumo wrestling to the play-by-play of my beloved UH Warriors during his years in the islands. He arrived in Northern California just in time for the 1989 earthquake, and he was traveling through the Caldecott Tunnel at the time.

He left KTVU after 5 1/2 years and went to ESPN to anchor SportsCenter alongside Robin Roberts, Keith Olbermann, and Dan Patrick, to name a few. On weekdays at 4 p.m., Beil co-anchors ABC7 News. On weekdays, he also reports on sports for ABC7 News at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. He co-hosts ABC7’s “After the Game,” a post-game show, during basketball season. Larry has been with ABC7 News since 2001.

Beil also appeared in a This is SportsCenter commercial in which ring announcer Michael Buffer presented him as if he were ready to engage in a boxing match. Beil became the sports director at KGO-TV, the ABC affiliate in San Francisco, after leaving ESPN.
