Katie Vossler, a meteorologist on the Good Morning East Texas team, is no stranger to East Texas. She began an internship with Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto here at KLTV when she was unsure of the route she wanted her career to follow. She attributes her success to Mark, who was the first to push her to seek a career in television. Since then, Mark has been her mentor, and she is thrilled to be working with him once more.
Katie started her television career right here in East Texas, at KTRE in Lufkin, after college. She worked as a weekend meteorologist for two years before going to KOTV-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she forecasted severe storms and chased tornadoes for several years. She’s seen at least a dozen tornadoes from the ground in a station storm chase vehicle, as well as from the air in a station helicopter.
She covered many cold weather events while in Tulsa. Most notably, she won a regional EMMY award for her coverage of the ice storm in December 2007.
Katie most recently worked at KSAT 12 in San Antonio, Texas’s heartland. Her favorite memory from that time was being on-air for live storm coverage while baseball-sized hail fell outside.
