Huw Edwards is a Welsh journalist, presenter, and newsreader. He presents BBC News at Ten, the corporation’s flagship news broadcast. He also presents BBC coverage of state events, international events, and the hour-long BBC News at Five on the BBC’s rolling news channel BBC News.
Edwards hosted the BBC’s coverage of major royal events, such as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He took over as host of BBC election night coverage from David Dimbleby, and he was the lead presenter for the 2019 general election coverage on December 12 and 13.
Edwards worked briefly for the commercial radio station Swansea Sound before joining the BBC as a news trainee in 1984. He was appointed Parliamentary Correspondent for BBC Wales in 1986. Edwards hosted the BBC Six O’Clock News from May 1999 to January 2003. This was the most-watched news program in the United Kingdom at the time.
He has also presented or contributed to a number of other BBC News shows, including Breakfast News, One O’Clock News, Newsnight, and Panorama. Edwards has been presenting the newly established BBC News at Five on the 24-hour BBC News channel since April 2006. On April 29, 2011, he hosted the BBC’s coverage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s wedding.
