Greg Dawson is an American columnist and author. He has worked as a reporter, television critic, and columnist at newspapers in Indiana during his 50 years in journalism.
Dawson began working for the Orlando Sentinel in 1986 as a TV critic before becoming a local and state columnist in 1994. He left for the Indianapolis Star in 2000 and returned in 2003. His column, “The Last Resort,” answers questions to assist businesses and consumers in resolving conflicts, and is frequently written in a humorous tone.
Hiding in the Spotlight: A Musical Prodigy’s Story of Survival, 1941-1946, was his first book, published in 2009. The book tells the story of his mother, Zhanna Arshanskaya Dawson, who escaped the Holocaust with her sister as a teenager. The rest of their family was assassinated.
The sisters survived the Holocaust by assuming new identities and playing piano for German soldiers. They eventually made their way to the United States. Candy Dawson, Dawson’s wife, wrote and directed a short documentary titled Hiding in the Spotlight, which was released in April 2010. Dawson narrates the short documentary, which was shot in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
