Frederic Wood Barnes widely known as Fred Barnes is an American news journalist currently working for Fox New Channel as a political commentator. He also worked for The New Republic before becoming a political commentator for Fox News.
Barnes worked as a writer for The Charleston News and Courier before joining The Washington Star as a correspondent. He eventually worked as a political journalist for the Baltimore Sun, where he covered the White House and the Supreme Court. Fred joined The New Republic in 1985 and served as senior editor and White House reporter until 1995.
He was a panelist on The McLaughlin Group, a current affairs show, from 1985 to 1998. He then worked for Radio America, where he presented the show What’s the Story? He is presently a moderator for The Voice of America’s show Issues in the News.
Fred was previously the executive editor of The Weekly Standard publication. He appears on Special Report with Bret Baier on Fox News Channel.
