Eric Elwell Biography and Wiki

Eric Elwell is an American journalist working as the chief meteorologist for Spectrum News 1 in Columbus, Ohio. He was previously working as the chief meteorologist for WHIO-TV, the CBS affiliate for almost four years.

Elwell formerly worked at WBNS in Columbus from 2012 to 2015, when he won an Emmy for his coverage of numerous disasters. He began his career in Ohio as the chief meteorologist for the Ohio News Network (ONN), where he established the station’s weather section in 1998.

During his time at ONN, he led the weather team to several Ohio Associated Press honors for “Best Weather Operation” in Ohio, including in 2009, 2010, and 2011. He began his weather career with WTVA-TV, an NBC affiliate in Tupelo, Mississippi, before moving on to KAKE-TV, an ABC station in Wichita, Kansas.

Elwell was certified as a broadcast meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society (AMS). The American Meteorological Society (AMS) imparts the CBM designation to broadcast meteorologists who demonstrate scientific competence and good communication skills in their weather presentations.

Elwell also possesses a National Weather Association Seal of Approval and was appointed to the NWA seal evaluation board in 2011.
