Gaessler began her journalism career at Républicain Lorrain while she was still a student. She then worked for RTL TV at Metz as an editor for France 3 Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne. Gaessler worked on Henri Sannier’s Soir 3 on France 3 in 1996. She co-hosted the noon news bulletin 13 heures on France 2 with Rachid Arhab from 1998 to 2000.

After two years in Australia, she joined France 2’s nightly news show 20 heures in February 2003 as a substitute anchor for David Pujadas on weekday broadcasts, a post she kept until August 2006. She co-hosted election night coverage of the 2004 French regional and cantonal elections with Daniel Bilalian, as well as live coverage of the 2005 French European Constitution referendum with David Pujadas.

Gaessler also hosted the magazine show Immersion Totale on France 2 towards the end of 2004. For the European Heritage Days, she presented La France en héritage, a unique show on France 2 dedicated to French history. She went on to become the editor-in-chief and host of France 5’s weekly consumer news magazine C’est notre affaire.
