She was also hired by the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management – at the University of California, Santa Barbara. During this time, she served as a research assistant for Scoping Ocean Plastics. Furthermore, Winkler worked as a climate change researcher at Environmental Defense Center. While there, her responsibilities included to translated research papers as well as scientific articles.
