For more than 30 years, Bob Harrigan, chief meteorologist for ABC 7, has provided weather predictions for the Suncoast. Bob has a distinctive viewpoint on hurricanes. He got to see how strong these storms were up close. On board the renowned Hurricane hunter aircraft, he entered the eye of Bertha, a 115 mph hurricane, in 1996.
He boarded the P3 Orion, a hurricane hunter aircraft operated by NOAA, and he flew into the even more powerful storm Ivan in 2004. Here on the Suncoast, powerful storm systems can develop suddenly, and Bob always makes sure that his audience is prepared to deal with severe weather when it threatens our region.
The Bradenton Herald readers have chosen Bob more than five times as the Tampa Bay area’s “Best Television Meteorologist.” Additionally, Sarasota Magazine has repeatedly chosen him as the “Best Television Personality,” most recently three years in a row from 2014 to 2017.
Bob likes to play golf and go fishing in addition to weather. In fact, you can see his fishing feature, “Fishin’ with Bob and Capt. Jonnie,” twice a week, once at 5:30 on Friday and once at 11 p.m. on Thursday.
In addition to collecting money and publicity for many deserving causes, Bob donates his time to a countless number of non-profit organizations. Each year, he offers useful hurricane and severe weather workshops to Suncoast residents. The Suncoast is the lightning capital of North America, therefore it’s critical to understand safety advice that could save fatalities. The American Meteorological Society has conferred the title of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist on Bob.

emperatures will be getting even hotter over the next several days due to high humidity and plenty of sunshine. The usual afternoon and evening storms are going to be absent through Wednesday of this work week with only an occasional late day storm or two. High pressure and fairly dry air will suppress our normal afternoon and evening thunderstorm pattern. Temperatures will be exceeding the averages for this time of year however.
A frontal boundary to our north will set up another weak line of low pressure out ahead of it which will create some instability over the area and bring a much better chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms on Saturday. The rain chance remains high with a 70% chance for rain scattered about at any time during the day. Winds will be out of the WSW at 10-15 mph with some higher gusts near the storms.
