Alan Hamel Biography
Alan Hamel (b. 1936) is a well-known Canadian producer and TV Host famous for being the husband of American actress Suzanne Somers who sadly passed away on the 15th of October 2023 from Cancer.
Hamel made his mark as a co-host on the Canadian children’s television series “Razzle Dazzle” from 1961 to 1964. This whimsical show starred a talking turtle named Howard, delighting young viewers.
In the late 1960s, he took the helm as the host of two syndicated game shows that graced the screens of ABC-owned and operated TV stations and others: “Wedding Party” in 1968 and “Anniversary Game” in 1969. It was during the latter show that he crossed paths with Suzanne Somers, who would become his wife in 1977.
Shifting gears in the late 1970s, Hamel embarked on a new adventure by hosting “The Alan Hamel Show,” a well-received daytime talk show on CTV. He earned the distinction of being dubbed “Canada’s leading TV talk show host” by People magazine. His talent also took him to CBS for a brief stint with the People television series in 1978.
In 1980, Hamel passed the baton to fellow Canadian Alan Thicke, and the show was rebranded as “The Alan Thicke Show.” Later on, Don Harron took the reins with his eponymous talk show, occupying the same time slot.
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Hamel played a key role as the face of American Stores, a nationwide supermarket chain. His familiar presence was synonymous with Alpha Beta stores in the western United States, and he occasionally graced the screens of Acme Markets in the northeastern United States.

Wife’s Death and Cause
Suzanne was first diagnosed with hyperplasia and later diagnosed with skin cancer. The worst happened after she was later diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. It didn’t stop there as she was admitted in the year 2000 after a diagnosis revealed that she had liposuction on her hips and back. She could not fight anymore as her cancer came back in 2023 and she died in her California home.
